New Year’s Eve is a great excuse to get dressed up, whether one is heading out to a party or simply relaxing with friends. There’s something about ringing in the New Year that calls for “glitz” and “glamour”. The following accessories compliment numerous types of outfits. Most of these items are probably on post-Christmas sale, but there’s a good chance most women already have versions in their own closets.
It’s likely that many women own a sparkly or beaded clutch; these have been in style for the past few seasons and are still being shown for spring 2020. Larger purses are sometimes embellished as well. The key to using a purse with sparkles, sequins or beads is for it to be the stand-out accessory. Shoes can be slightly metallic, but it isn’t wise to mix a sparkly purse with glittery shoes, which is overkill.
Costume jewelry looks good at night. Necklaces and earrings that would be too flashy during the day can be fun after dark. Diamonds (or anything that looks like diamonds) are always a safe bet. Numerous strands of pearls are also elegant, especially when paired with a more dressed-down outfit. Example: jeans, a t-shirt or sweater and a bevy of pearls… very chic!
Smoky Eyes (Makeup)
Anyone who’s read a fashion or beauty magazine in the past several years has likely seen numerous examples of smoky eyes that veer from the traditional black/gray combo. Runways and magazine spreads have shown smoky eyes in shades of purple, green, brown, navy… using a color often gives a slightly softer look.
Heels or flats? The choice is up to the individual, as both can be fancy and party-worthy. Designers are creating more and more flats that feature embellishments such as sequins, which cuts down on the “casual” aspect of wearing a flat shoe. Can’t decide? A kitten heel is a classic look that never goes out of style. Boots can also be funky, especially paired with a party dress.
If the weather is cold or a party is partially outdoors, a coat may be necessary and can be completely glamorous. Fabrics such as faux fur or velvet have a nighttime party feel to them. For inspiration, think of 1920s flappers; coats accentuated their everyday and fancy outfits.
Top Fall Fashion and Beauty Looks for Women
This season, fashion and makeup are taking their inspiration from music, film and television.
Red and Silver Eye Makeup: This fall, eye-shadow colors are on fire! All shades of red are in, from fiery orange to bold burgundy to crimson red (think True Blood!) Once reserved for that sweet pucker, red has now taken over! However, red isn’t the only shade you’ll need: silver eye make-up is the perfect night time accessory. To stay on trend, highlight your smokey eyes with a stroke of grey: shimmery or glittery, in bright sterling shades or gunmetal, the choice is yours
Plaid Accessories: Plaid is in, but have no fear: there is no need to revive 90s grunge and resurrect the spirit of Kurt Cobain. If you are not sure that the boyfriend plaid shirt is right for you, keep it subtle yet on trend with small plaid wardrobe accents such as plaid scarves, or indulge in a gorgeous tartan woollen cape or a plaid fall coat.
Shoulder Pads: Yes, we thought they were gone forever, but big shoulders are back, and out to their shoulders are everywhere! Make the style work for you by pairing bold-shouldered blouses and narrow skirts for an office look that screams fierce.
Ankle Boots: Ankle boots are everywhere this season, in every shade from bone to pink to classic black. Try a sexy stiletto with a pointy toe, to go from the office straight to cocktails, or an open-toed number for those early fall nights out on the town. Payless makes a style that is chic and affordable, as does H &M – or splurge on those Town Shoe beauties you’ve been coveting!
Glamorous Bras: Make the most of your figure with a hot new bra. Wonderbra’s Full Glamour Collection celebrates a woman’s every curve, and it does so in style: the gorgeous seamless underwire bras and sexy lace push-up bras are guaranteed to make you feel your best day and night, while the company’s High Impact Sports bra offers support and coverage at the gym, and during your morning run.
Chanel Everything: When it comes to glamour, nobody did it better than Coco Chanel. The designer is hot this season, with movies galore coming out about the infamous fashion diva. Not sure you can splurge on Chanel chic? Add a splash of Chanel to your own personal style by investing in one essential classic: Chanel No. 5 eau de toilette. It’s what Marilyn Monroe reputedly wore to bed, and it’s the only thing a girl ever needs to feel sexy, night or day.
